The research note

Research note: NVDA outperforms AMD through Jun 12

What this market is really testing, what has to be true for BACK to win, and what would cleanly break the thesis.

The thesis in plain English

Resolve BACK if, by 2026-06-13 20:00 UTC, the named market data source shows Nvda outperforming amd on percent return over the review window; otherwise resolve FADE.

In trader terms: long NVDA versus short AMD on percent return over the window. Either the relative leg prints by the deadline or it doesn't.

Why this matters now

NVDA versus AMD is the cleanest semis pair anyone can argue about, and traders are constantly asked to pick a side on relative narrative pressure. This market puts that take on a fixed clock with a single number to beat.

No storytelling at settlement. NVDA's percent return either lands above AMD's between the market-open reference and the resolve reference, or it doesn't.

The case for BACK

BACK is priced conviction that NVDA's flow and narrative edge translate into a higher percent return than AMD between now and the resolve reference. The bar is relative, not absolute: NVDA can drop, AMD can drop further, and BACK still wins.

The BACK condition is exactly: NVDA posts a higher percent return than AMD between the market-open reference and the resolve reference.

The case for FADE

FADE is the disagreement: traders who think AMD's setup, positioning, or catch-up trade outruns NVDA over a three-day window. The falsifier is unambiguous: Resolve FADE if NVDA does not post a higher percent return than AMD over the same window. Void only if either NVDA or AMD is missing a usable public reference at settlement.

Ties and underperformance both resolve FADE. There is no partial credit for being close.

Key evidence

  • Pair: NVDA versus AMD, percent return over the review window
  • Source of truth: Yahoo Finance NVDA and AMD closes
  • Source URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/NVDA/history/
  • Opens: 2026-06-09 19:56 UTC
  • Closes: 2026-06-12 20:00 UTC
  • Resolves: 2026-06-13 20:00 UTC
  • Evidence type: market data, deterministic settlement

The source and the rule are doing the work here. Any reviewer should be able to pull the same closes and arrive at the same answer.

What would change my mind

The public print is the only thing that should change anyone's mind. If AMD's percent return matches or beats NVDA's over the window, the thesis loses cleanly. No narrative rescue, no window extension, no source swap.

The void clause is narrow: only triggered if either NVDA or AMD is missing a usable public reference at settlement.

How this resolves

Use https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/NVDA/history/ as the source of truth. Read the daily close or reference spot price through 2026-06-13 20:00 UTC. Settlement closes at 2026-06-12 20:00 UTC and resolves at 2026-06-13 20:00 UTC. Resolve BACK when NVDA posts a higher percent return than AMD between the market-open reference and the resolve reference. Resolve FADE when NVDA does not post a higher percent return than A…

Why this is a good market

One pair, one metric, one source, one deadline. Comparative percent return on two of the most liquid public tickers, settled on a feed everyone can read. There is no room for motivated reinterpretation, which is exactly what a market filing should look like.
