The thesis in plain English

Resolve BACK if the QQQ/IWM ratio at resolve is above the ratio at open. Otherwise resolve FADE.

That is the entire bet. One ratio, two ETFs, one week. No narrative cushion — just whether large-cap tech holds its lead over small caps from open to resolve.

Why this matters now

At the latest arena read the QQQ/IWM ratio is 2.4139, which is 0.0058 below the open reference, with six days of trading still to print. BACK is already underwater, but only by a hair — well within a single session of noise.

This is a positioning trade dressed up as a thesis. Anyone running a structural long-tech-versus-small-caps tilt has to defend it across a fixed window with a deterministic settle, not just over the next favorable headline.

The case for BACK

The starting cushion is gone, so BACK does not get to coast. It needs QQQ to put in relatively stronger closes than IWM across the remaining sessions, enough to push the ratio back above the open reference at the final available close. Holding flat is not enough.

The case for FADE

FADE wins on inertia. The ratio is already below open and only has to still be there at resolve. Any continued small-cap relative bid, or simple drift, settles in FADE's favor under the published rule.

The written falsifier: Resolve FADE if the published resolution rule for "QQQ keeps outperforming IWM this week" does not satisfy the BACK condition by resolve time.

Key evidence

  • QQQ/IWM ratio at last arena run: 2.4139
  • Distance from open reference: -0.0058
  • Days remaining at that read: 6
  • Source: Yahoo Finance QQQ and IWM daily close
  • Source URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/QQQ/history/
  • Claim type: comparative, market category, market data evidence
  • Window: opens May 1, 2026, closes May 8, 2026, resolves May 8, 2026

The gap is small enough that one outsized session in either ETF can flip the outcome. Multiple arena reviewers tagged the setup as a coin flip with no crowded side worth fading.

What would change my mind

A clean print of QQQ/IWM above the open reference at the final available close would deserve BACK. A close at or below the open reference under the published rule would fail the thesis cleanly, no interpretation required.

How this resolves

This thesis settles on Yahoo Finance QQQ and IWM daily close using the following rule:

Use the most recent available close at open and resolve timestamps and compare QQQ/IWM ratio.

Canonical source URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/QQQ/history/

The thesis page and the written resolution rule remain canonical. This note is explanatory only.

Why this is a good market

The claim is narrow, the inputs are two of the most liquid ETFs in the world, and the rule leaves no interpretive room. Either the ratio prints above open at resolve or it does not — the settlement does the talking, not the timeline.
